Mindfulness 2020!

Today I'm going to be writing about Mindfulness with Ms Ikinofo! My class went last, but this is what we did. We each had our own mat to sit on and we sat in our easy pose. Our easy pose was basically folding our legs and sitting up straight. Our teacher told us just to relax and focus on our breathing. Stretching from side to side my back was really sore. Then we stood up in our mountain pose and closed our eyes. We focused on 3 things for 1 minute each and it was the sounds, touch, and our breath. It was really hard to focus because there were distractions around me. After that we did some more stretching like downward dog, child pose, snake pose, crocodile pose, and table and cat pose.

Then we played a game with a timer. We had to hold hands in a circle and we had 1 hula hoop. We had to move the hula hoop around the circle and back to the person who started without letting go of each others hands. Straight after the game we had to buddy up back to back and say what we felt. Then we just did a 5 minute relaxation and lay on the mat. The music was very calm and my favorite thing about mindfulness is we get to calm down and empty out our minds. I felt like I was in the clouds just lying down on them comfortably.

Art Colouring Book!

 Today Mr Margot who is one of the Manaiakalani teachers came in our class and set a activity for us to do. He came in to show us this years Summer Learning Journey. The Summer Learning Journey is a fun thing to do in summer. There is lots of activities and you learn new stuff. There are activities everyday and for six weeks. Its a really fun and cool experience. We registered for the Summer Learning Journey and watched a video from a Mannaikalani teacher named Ms Grant. 

She set up a video of how the Art Coloring book works.  It was really easy and all you have to do is go onto the site and press 'free experiment;. Then you can pick any picture and there are colours at the bottom. The first 8 colours on your left are the colors they used in the real picture. The other colors are for you to experiment. When you tap a colour and tap the picture it will fill it with the colour. Here is the site!

Intermediate visit!

Bula Vanaka Everyone! 

Today I'm going to be blogging about the visit to Waikowhai Intermediate. Next year, I won't be here at Waikowhai Primary and I will be going to Waikowhai Intermediate!!! Of course I feel really sad because I am leaving my school which I have been to for 5 years. I also feel really excited because my teacher and classroom is Amazing! My Teacher is called Mr Swan and he is really funny. My class is Room 15 and inside the classroom has inflatable Burritos! They are on a shelf and you can throw it at anyone at anytime. 

We went through some rules about the school and we also went through the dress code. All of the Yr 6 students went down if they were going to Waikowhai Intermediate. After that they gave us 2 i pads, 5 pencils, and 5  big pieces of paper. On the pieces of paper there were questions. Our task was to find the answers to the questions on the i pads. It was basically a virtual reality scavenger hunt! We had 10 questions to answer and we had to share 1 i pad between others.  

Our teacher made a virtual map of Waikowhai Intermediate and thats the map we used for our scavenger hunt. We only had a short amount of time before we went headed back to the hall. Our time was up and the 10:00 bell rang and we had to head back. My Mum was there the whole time with my little sister. Then we had to head back to school and say goodbye to the teachers. My Mum dropped me off to school and the some of the other students walked and were dropped off as well. I really enjoyed the morning. I am so excited for 2021!

Skateboarding: 1st Session!

 Talofa Everyone! Today I'm going to be blogging about our first session of skateboarding. 

 This morning my class got to go skateboarding first and I was so excited! Everyone had to wear a helmet and had to have a skateboard of course. First, we just had a ride around, so that we could get use to it. After that we came back to the white line to split in 2 groups. The first group stayed on the first court and the second group went to the second court. I was in the first group and we did some balancing. We stood on one foot and lunged down like we were pushing the skateboard. Then we had to touch the nose of the skateboard and close our eyes while doing it. After we did balancing, our group had to do tick - tacks! Tick - tacks are when you put one foot on the tail of the board and one foot in front. Then you have to lift it up and turn around as many times as you can.

Instead of staying still we had to ride around and do tick - tacks at the same time. For me it was really hard because I fell, but I saved myself. Then our coach changed tick - tacks into crab walk. A crab walk is when you put both feet on the edges of the board. Then you lift up one foot and then the other. This time I couldn't do it, but I kept trying and trying and I finally did it! Our next task was really easy, all you had to do is lean while skating. Leaning on a skateboard is when you ride and if you need to turn lean on your left or right. Don't lean too far or you might end up on the ground. After that we had a game called 'Whats up, wolf?' How you play this game is really easy, all you need is: A skateboard or a scooter, a helmet, and your friends or family to play with. One person is the wolf and the others are his friends. 

The wolf moves forward and so do his friends. When the wolf looks behind everyone freezes as quick as they can. If one of them moves they take 4 steps back. If you go past the wolf, you have to take 8 steps back. When he says dinner time you have to race to the other end and whoever gets there first wins and becomes the wolf. We had 2 rounds and after that we had a bit of free - time. I used all of the tricks they taught me for my free - time and it was so fun!  We finished up and took off our helmets. Then we went back to our class smiling! That was only our first session, but I hope you can do some tricks on your skateboard if you have one. The positive thing about the session was learning new skills!

Waikowhai Primary Amazing Production 2020

Today I'm going to be blogging about Waikowhai Primary putting on a fabulous production. On November 4,5,6 my school put on a production called 'Jasmine and Aladdin'. The show had lots of characters, but the main characters were Jasmine, Aladdin, Persia, Omar, and Geewiz. Persia is Aladdin's cat who only says meow to people or to say something. We had 9 scenes and all of the classes in my school got to perform a dance.

The director of this show is our Deputy principal Miss Mcgrath and Ms Sands. They have done a lot to make this show happen and so has other teachers and parents. All of the cast is Yr 5 & 6, but some of them are in the yr 5 & 6 dance. I was in the cast and I played as a Professor.Scene 9 is my favorite because Persia takes Omar the evil wizard's staff which had magic in it.

Then the chase scene comes and thats my favorite part of scene 9. 

The main Genie played on November 4, and 5th, but a different actor in our cast had to play his part on the 6th. The show was Mostly about Jasmine and Aladdin trying to stop Omar and his assistant Geewiz from trying to take over the Kingdom of Hasbar. My parents came to watch on Thursday and I was really nervous. In the show my feelings about it made me excited, happy, nervous, and a bit sick. My costume had lots of blue and I had a peacock cape, but much shorter. This has been my favorite highlight of the year so far. 

At the end all of the cast went up to bow. The yr 5 & 6 dancers also went up to bow. After everyone had a turn to bow in front of the audience we did the year 5 & 6 dance! I didn't know the moves really well so I copied others in front of me. I had a awesome week and I'm so excited to see the next production with my little sister in it. Making fabulous Tapa!

 Kia Ora kotoa! 

That means hi everyone in Maori and I used it because it is Maori language week! Now, I am writing about the fabulous Tapa the whole of Te Waka Ako made. We made a Tapa for Tongan language week and we are still continuing the creation. Instead of using cloth or material we used paper because we had no cloth to make the Tapa. The first step is to have a square piece of paper or cloth and then fold it in half 2 times. It should have two squares at the top and bottom. Make sure the paper is brown or light brown. 

Then you could draw Tongan patterns in those squares or you could do other patterns. When you have done then go over it again with a black permanent marker. Make sure you have newspaper underneath, so it doesn't go through. When you have finished, set newspapers on the table and lay each one on top of each other. Use brown types of dye to colour your Tapa and make sure to leave some blank. 

When you have done dying then leave it somewhere to dry and make sure you leave it somewhere safe and warm. Once it is dry then start scrunching it up softly, so that is can be like Tapa. If you are scrunching it make sure when you open don't rip it. Once it feels really soft and smooth iron it to make it flat. There you have it and you could put it on your window.

1st Basketball session!

 As you know it is Tongan language week, but I am talking about our first Basketball. It was so fun that I learnt how to dribble a ball under my leg. The Basketball teachers were Ronan and Mickey. For our warm up we played a game called Turtle tag and it's really fun. If you get tagged you have to lye on your back like a turtle with your feet and hands in the air. Two people have to help them get back up by holding there arms and legs and turning them over. Even the teachers played with us! 

In Basketball there is three easy, simple rules. The first rule is listening whenever they talk, the second rule is respect which is very important. The last rule which is the best, have FUN! We had 5 Basketball movements which were dribbling side to side, dribble through legs, stir the bath (side to side with one hand) under toilet , Sandwich (protect ball). At the end of the session we played a game called Dribble master. All you had to do was guard the ball from the person trying to get it off. You have to try and keep it for 10 seconds. 

I got through one person which was okay. If we touched that person that means it was contact and if you stopped dribbling and started dribbling again is called double dribble. Our Student teacher and teacher even tried doing it with us. We all had the best time and I am excited for next Wednesday! Mono - Print!

 Hola Bloggers! 

Today you are going to read about my Monoprint that I made. 

A Monoprint includes ink and control. Mono means one and you can't redo your first Monoprint because it won't work. I drew a heron for my Monoprint and some patterns on it and in it too. You need ink, an A4 board, an ink roller,  an A3 piece of paper, and a pencil. Draw around the board to make a border and then draw whatever you want. 

Then get another A3 piece of paper and trace your drawing and patterns which includes your background. When your’e done then cover a table with newspaper and start rolling the ink on a whiteboard. When it makes a sticky sound then put it on your A4 board. Cover the A4 board with ink, but don't put too much ink. Then carefully line up the corners with the A4 board onto your piece of paper and draw over your picture with a sketching pencil. Don't lean on your picture or it will make a mark when you pull it off. 

Trace everything and when you are sure you have traced everything then carefully pull your drawing towards you. Hang it up to dry and when it is dry then you could put 3 colours on your picture. Lockdown creations slideshow T3 WK6!

 Talofa Lava Everyone! Today is the last day of online school! I am really excited to see everyone at school on Monday. Are you excited? Well, I am and when I return back to school I have a lot of responsibilities to do. I have to do fun games at lunch time with kids, Jump jam practice, and set the hall up for singing assemble before we go home. Today you are reading about my T3 WK 6 Lockdown creations slideshow. My favorite activities on the slideshow was the stage 6 math's breakout and my writing. I liked my writing because you could write about the picture in anyway and I learnt how to do new techniques. 

I liked the math's breakout because it was challenging and fun as well. I didn't get to finish it, but at least I got to do it. You can learn as well and if you want to make a slideshow like that then do it. By the way do you like my drawings? Fancy Friday Google meet!

 Talofa Everyone! 

Today you will be reading about today's fancy google meet. Every Friday the whole senior syndicate will dress up fancy. You could wear a fancy tie or a fancy t - shirt or anything that is fancy. Well, I only wore a purple scarf which isn't that fancy, but at least I had something! Anyways, I was so happy to see the other senior class teachers and everyone else as well. One of our teachers who is studying this whole term was also online and we were all hyped up. Here is a photo of what the teachers made. 

Do you like it? Well, on the google meet some students shared their writing. It was so cool and their writing had funny bits as well. My teacher was to busy reading our writing that she didn't even mark our work! At least teachers are interested in our writing. We also shared what we did for our extra activity. After that it was time to go and we all said our goodbyes. I am so excited for next weeks one.

My Purple scarf I wore

Writing: Haunted house

 Malo Blogger world! I haven't blogger for a while, so I said to myself I'll do one. Today you will be reading about yesterdays writing work. Yesterday we had to write about a picture of a haunted house and what we felt like in the first steps. My story isn't as scary as actual haunted house stories and it does include ghosts and ghouls. When I was looking at the picture lots of things popped up in my head and I knew what to do straight away. I started writing my first paragraph and it turned out that I scared myself. I took 10 minutes to write my first 2 paragraphs. In my second paragraph thats when the ghost came in and in my third paragraph that is basically when I see the ghoul and run out of the house like most stories have. When I finished my story I thought I could do better on today's one and I think I did on the picture about a new environment.

Math's Week!

 Bula Vanaka bloggers! What a crazy week because of Covid - 19! Well, this week was math's week and it was quite hard. The first day was fine, but then when the next day comes it gets even harder. Each math's day was mixed up, so the first day was mostly about times tables and additions. The Second day was a bit about factors. The third day was about symmetry, the fourth day was about what about math's movies. Today's one was about Measurements. I need to work on today's one because measurements aren't my strength. There was also two other games you could play. My favorite game was raining money and all you had to do was to catch the money. It went from 10c, 20c, 50c, 1$, 2$, 5$ and then it would keep going.

You only have 1 minute and 40 seconds. My highest score was 117.36 dollars and if you are wondering that you actually get the money. Well, unfortunately the game said you don't! The second game is about metres and how many metres you go until you get to the rock. If you don't go far enough it's bad luck. Math's week is good for you to learn your math's and you could challenge yourself.

Animal Myth story!

 Talofa everyone! Today I am at home doing my work because Covid - 19 was found in South Auckland! Pretty Crazy! Well, during school we created our own myth story about an animal and how it got it's own feature or physical thing. My one was how a Rhino got its horns and my story has other characters as well. My Main character is the Rhino of course named Rocky and how he got his horns. The characters are Sela the snake, Flutter the fantail, Snappy the crocodile, and Spiky the hedgehog. So far my story is going well, we were reading about how the Kiwi lost its wings. We also watched a old myth called the elephants child. It was how the Elephants child got a long trunk. We had to use a twist in our story so that its not so boring and so that it is exciting. We had to use other characters so that  it makes the reader hooked in.

Saturday netball!

Talofa lava Everyone! 

Today I am going to share with you what I did on Saturday! So on Saturday, I was playing netball and it was really fun. It was my first time playing at Windmill courts against another team. I was really nervous because the other team looked really good. The team we were versing was St. Francis and they had tall girls. I arrived early in the morning and only 2 of my team players were there. We practised shooting some hoops and practising foot work. Later on our Managers arrived and we started to do some passes. Then it was game time and we were handed bibs to put on. When we went on the court St Francis scored one point. It was a bit hard in the first round, but then it made sense to me more. We kept on scoring until the final round and we won the game! We were happy and we congratulated the other as well.

It was a happy and tiring game, but at least all of us had fun!

Waikowhai Intermediate Visit!

Talofa Lava Everyone! Yesterday all of the Yr 6's went to visit Waikowhai Intermediate. It was very exciting and there was so much students. We traveled by bus and we went the long way. When we got there it was just our school, so we had 15 minutes playtime. When it was over all the schools were here. The Principal said we were very early and he introduced himself. There was only 3 schools which were Waikowhai, Hay Park, and May Road. We came to visit because most of us might go to Waikowhai Intermediate.

Before we got to see the school they performed dances to see what its like. My favorite one was when they sang and it was beautiful. After they performed, all of the councilors introduced themselves. Each councilor was split into groups to take each school and then we stood up. 3 teachers went with one school, May Road had the Principal, Hay Park had one of the teachers and we had the deputy principal.

Our school went to the library first and it looked amazing. The deputy principal said it was small, but to me it was very big. The next room we went to was the art room and all of the art was very talented. There was no one in the room so it was good. The next room was Room 1 and they were drawing 3D cubes quietly and silently. The next room we went to was Room 10 and they were working on their chrome books. After that we went to Room 11 which my brother is in. They were cleaning up and it was very clean. Then we saw the turf and went into the architect room. There was 3D printers and they were cutting out wood. The next room we went to was the food tech room and it smelt delicious. Then we went in the hall and sat down to get ready to go.

Matariki Daily Activities!

Talofa Lava Everyone! Today I am going to share with you what we did on Matariki day during school. Yesterday we had 3 rotations. The 1st rotation was making manu tuku tuku's (kites) out of paper, cord, bamboo, feathers, and decorative strips that the students made. The 2nd rotation was making Maori bread which is basically fried bread. All you needed was two ingredients which was Self raising flour and water, simple! The last rotation was the 3rd rotation which was Stop motion. If you don't know what stop motion is, it is basically taking pictures while moving something with tiny movement. The stop motion we did was based on the Matariki story the seven sisters or stars.

My favorite rotation was making fried bread because after we got to eat it with either Golden syrup, butter, jam, or hazelnut chocolate butter. It was delicious and the fried read smelt really nice. 

The kites were amazing and with all of the art stripes it made small ones and we made 1 big one for the wall. For stop motion I was with a buddy and we made a little man who moved across. We didn't get to finish it because we had a short amount of time. Next time I want to make a stop motion about me.

I'm  going to try and make the fried bread at home so that I can share it with my family and eat it.

Cross Country!

Talofa everyone!

Yesterday we had Cross Country and is was Amazing! The run was really long and it wasn't the most easiest. My legs feel really tired today that when I get home I might sleep until dinner! There were lots of activities like games, warm ups, runs, Tennis and a rest station. Some of the yr 6 were leading the games and the stations. The others would be on the course telling the little ones were to go. I was with 2 other leaders and 1 house captains. The 1st station was the Cross Country run which starts near the Te Waka ako. The 2nd station was the warm up station were you get ready for the run. The 3rd station was the blindfold game which I was leading. The game is really simple, you get a partner and one has a blindfold. The other one guides them and can't touch them, just by words. The 4th station was Handball and it looked like a lot of fun. There was lots squares and handballs bouncing around! 

Station 5 was Tennis and it got everyone moving. The last station was playground relay and it looked like the best one. In the morning the day started like a normal day except no school uniform and poles. Everyone was wearing house colours such as blue, red, yellow, and green. If they didn't have house colours they would be wearing their uniform or black and other clothes. 

    We had an early morning tea which was at 10:30 to 11:00. Our first group was the 0/1 yr girls and we had lots of other groups to go through during the day. When our last group finished it was our turn. All of the Yr 6's were going to do their run. I was really nervous when the boys already went.

When we started running the whole school cheered and roared across to backtrack. I was really tired and I wanted to keep going. The side of my hip started to feel really sore and everyone was a head of me. Some of them all ready crossed the finish line. We had to do two laps of the course and it was really tiring. I sprinted when I was on the drive way all the way to the finish line. I really tried my best and it was a fun day. I hope you like my blog post and here are some photos of the day!

Jane Elliot video

Talofa Bloggers! Today we watched a video about a teacher doing a experiment with her students. This was based on judging people and being racist. The students didn't know that she was going to do the experiment on them. The teacher said blues eyes are better than brown eyes, so she said blue eyes are allowed to play on the playground. The brown eyes couldn't play on the playground and in 15 minutes fights started happening. Then the blues did a test on how fast they could go through a card packet and it took them 3 minutes. The students with the brown eyes wore a collar. The next day it was the students with the brown eyes turn and they gave the collars to the blue eyed students. They said the brown eyes were dumb and now they say the blue eyes are dumb. They tested the blue eyes again and this time they got 4 minutes and 8 seconds. They got slower because they thought about the collar all the time. The next day they talked about what happened in those 2 days and they didn't like it. The teacher asked is it okay to judge someone by their colour and they said no. The experiment was based on racism and it's not okay to do that. The lesson is never judge someone from being different or thinking they're bad.

Reading activity!

I am going to share with you my reading activity I did this week. So for my reading I did read-works about a lady call Malala Yousafzai. She is a woman who was exposed to the importance of her education when she was little. There was questions about her and she was one of the best selling books and an international icon all over the world. After her recover she told the story and made a book about what happened. I don't know if the Taliban are still taking care of schools, but I think Malala was a really brave girl when she was younger. She was awarded Nobel peace prize. My Read- works was a good score and I got 6/7 and the rest was an answer I had to write. Read-works is good for you to improve on your reading skills. It helped me to understand hard questions and get the answer quickly.

Online Toolkit's 2020

Yesterday some senior students did a programme called Toolkit's. It's a really fun programme at school and there are 3 sessions. So Toolkit's has 3 presenters from 6 schools and they present in front of people who chose to do their session. We had a challenge slideshow to fill in about the sessions we did and reflect on it. After we reflect we had to do a bingo card around toolkit's and fill it in to get a toolkit badge. I liked toolkit's because it was really fun and I got to learn new things that I didn't know I could do. I also like it because we got to do sandpit time which means we get to try out the new stuff and it was really cool. It was good to see everyone getting excited to do it. My favorite session was making a Comic and storyboard. I started making my own Comic and so far it's going good. We had to join meets before we do the activity. We joined meets so the presenters could what we had to do.

I didn't like the meets because most students didn't turn of their mics and it got all noisy and loud. The presenters tried to calm them down and tell them to turn off their mics. I also got frustrated when the internet slowed down and my screen froze when I was on my first google meet. I learnt how to make my own digital portrait by using only a google drawing, line curver, and colour. I learnt how to make my own comic and how to make a Newspaper bingo. I learnt lots of things at toolkit's and it was lots of fun.

They could improve by the teachers going over the ako-hiko rules and checking if the students mics are off. They can also improve by not interrupting the presenters speech by asking questions.

Toolkit's was really fun though and its good for people who don't know how to use sites or new things to them. Here are some pictures of the senior students doing toolkit's:
